Dallas Mavericks All-Star Kyrie Irving has suffered a devastating season-ending torn ACL in his left knee. The injury occurred late in the first quarter of the Mavericks' game against the Sacramento Kings on Monday night. This unfortunate development marks a significant blow to the team, which is struggling with an array of injuries to key players.
Irving's injury comes during a standout season where he averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. He achieved the rare feat of scoring over 20 points per game while shooting 40% from beyond the arc and 90% from the free-throw line. This accomplishment places him second only to Golden State's Stephen Curry in the all-time rankings for such performance. Notably, Irving is the only player this season with these impressive stats.
The Mavericks' loss against the Kings dropped their record to 32-30, leaving them 3.5 games ahead of the Phoenix Suns for the 10th seed in the Western Conference standings. With Irving, who appeared in 50 of the team's 62 games, sidelined, the Mavericks face an uphill battle to maintain their playoff position.
