The Dallas Mavericks announced Thursday night that forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper will be sidelined for the remainder of the season following surgery on his right wrist. Prosper, who had been struggling with injuries throughout the season, was shut down after playing 25 minutes in a significant 30-point defeat against Milwaukee on March 5.
During this season, Prosper averaged 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds over 11 minutes per game. Despite his limited playing time, he made his second start of the season shortly after the Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers and acquired Anthony Davis. Prosper's increased minutes marked a notable upturn in his second year, as he was a first-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
Prosper's absence compounds the injury woes for the Mavericks, who have been plagued by injuries this season. The team recently listed eight players, including Prosper, as out for their most recent game. These setbacks have significantly contributed to the Mavericks' struggles, impacting their performance and standings. Currently, they hold the 10th position in the Western Conference, which is the final spot in the play-in tournament.
The Mavericks have faced challenges since their appearance in the NBA Finals last season, where they fell to Boston. The departure of key player Luka Doncic further complicated their roster dynamics, but the arrival of Anthony Davis was anticipated to bolster their lineup. Unfortunately, injuries have hindered these plans.
