Marcus Rashford’s Future Hinges on Change, Says Amorim

Marcus Rashford, the Manchester United striker, finds himself at a crossroads as manager Ruben Amorim makes it clear that the player "has to change" to earn a place in his plans. Despite Rashford's immense talent, Amorim insists it is "nothing personal" but rather a matter of team dynamics and performance. Rashford has been absent from Manchester United's lineup for seven weeks, including being left out of the 21-man squad for their recent Europa League clash against FCSB in Romania. The situation raises questions about Rashford's future with the club, particularly since his preference remains a move to Barcelona, albeit without formal arrangements in place.

Rashford has participated in training sessions with his teammates, indicating his commitment to staying fit and ready for selection. However, Amorim's statements highlight a more complex situation. Rashford last appeared for Manchester United during their Europa League trip to Viktoria Plzen, and since then, he has been sidelined. Amorim emphasized that the team's need for goals, one-on-ones, and a threat in the final third is crucial, suggesting that Rashford must adapt to meet these requirements.

"The situation is the same for every player and the last time I talked about that in the last game my sentence was that I will not put any player that doesn't give the maximum," Amorim stated.

Despite the current circumstances, Rashford's talent is undeniable. Amorim himself acknowledged that the team is better with Rashford on the field. However, he remains firm in his stance that players must align with the team's needs and objectives before being considered for selection.

"We are a better team with Rashford and that is clear. He's a big talent but until the right moment I will not change my mind, that's all and it's always the same answer," Amorim added.

Rashford has shown a willingness to adjust his salary expectations if it facilitates a potential move to Barcelona, according to sources in Spain. This willingness underscores his desire to explore opportunities beyond Manchester United. However, Barcelona has yet to make any formal moves to secure Rashford on loan, leaving his future uncertain.

The absence of clear progress regarding a move to Barcelona places further emphasis on Rashford's potential role at Manchester United. Amorim's comments suggest that while there is room for Rashford in the team, specific conditions must be met.

"Our team should be so much better with Rashford. But he has to change. If he changes, we are more than welcome to put in a talent like Rashford and we need it," Amorim commented.

Amorim's candid remarks also included an unexpected comparison when he mentioned preferring United's 63-year-old goalkeeping coach over Rashford for squad selection. This statement underscores the level of dissatisfaction with Rashford's current standing within the team.

"I promised today that I will not give you nothing on Rashford. I'm giving you a little bit. It's the same thing. We need goals, we need one against ones, we need threat in the final third," Amorim explained.
