Manchester United have completed the signing of Slovenian international Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. The Premier League side secured the prolific forward’s signature by orchestrating high-profile initial payment of £66.26million (€76.5m). They went further and added a further £7.36 million (€8.5 million) in performance-related add-ons. Sesko, only 22 years old, signed an exceptional five-year deal. He’ll be glad to stick around Old Trafford until 2028.
Manchester United have been credited with interest in Sesko for a considerable period, dating back to last summer. They’ve been tracking him ever since he signed with Red Bull Salzburg at just 16 years old. Manchester City’s outgoing director of football, Jason Wilcox, pointed to the importance of this deal: He calls it the biggest shot in the arm for their team.
A Promising Talent
Benjamin Sesko has had a significant influence since joining RB Leipzig, registering 39 goals and 87 assists in 87 appearances for the club. His dazzling record and spectacular ability led many to compare him to Manchester City’s new star striker, Erling Haaland. Mark Sesko owned defenses with his electrifying speed and quickness on the pitch. Combined with his lean muscular physique, he’s a heavyweight for defenders to battle against.
Wilcox highlighted Sesko’s unique skill set, asserting, “Benjamin possesses a rare combination of electrifying pace and the ability to physically dominate defenders, making him one of the most exceptional young talents in world football.”
Manchester United’s long-term interest in the young Sesko is a positive sign of their desire to build a competitive team for years to come. As his health and development steadily improved, they were able to closely monitor his progress until reaching this record-setting investment.
Competitive Landscape
Manchester United were very keen on Sesko. At the same time, he was wanted by Newcastle United, who allegedly made a second offer of £69.7 million plus add-ons. It was Manchester United’s close working relationship with the player, as well as having been proactive in working to secure a deal, which swung it.
As he starts his new adventure at Old Trafford, Sesko will have to fight for playing time with another highly touted forward Rasmus Hojlund. The competition should be a positive force for both players, making each of them better this fall as they battle for the job.
Unveiling at Old Trafford
Sesko was introduced to supporters at Old Trafford before Manchester United’s friendly against Fiorentina. For Morris, the event signified a new chapter in his career as he prepares to take on one of football’s grandest stages. Sources close to Manchester United’s management were deeply confident in Sesko’s potential to adapt and succeed quickly enough in the Premier League.
“We have followed Benjamin’s career closely. All of our data analysis and research concluded that he has the required qualities and personality to thrive at Manchester United,” stated a spokesperson for the club. This confidence is indicative of the heavy scouting and analysis that was put into locking up his signature.
