Manchester United are reportedly in talks with Brentford over a move for forward Bryan Mbeumo. For one, the forward has made a strong clear public declaration of his desire to join the Premier League giants, this summer or perhaps a future summer. On their side while these negotiations drag on, Manchester United will be preparing to welcome a new No 9. They are particularly spurred on by Inter Milan’s pursuit of their existing frontman, Rasmus Hojlund.
Value added to the unfolding drama surrounding Hojlund. Inter Milan’s expected appointment of Cristian Chivu as head coach will play a huge role in their transfer market approach. He’s already had a big say in the club’s pursuit of Rasmus Hojlund. The Italian outfit have made him their number one target. Conversations since have hinted at Manchester United having to look at alternatives should Hojlund leave.
Mbeumo’s Ambitions
Bryan Mbeumo, now of Brentford, has shown his intent that he dreams one day of wearing the Manchester United shirt. His zeal for the switch has, according to numerous reports, made him the lynchpin in an unusual, months-long procurement process between the two franchises. Brentford, in turn, are considering selling the talented forward, which would open the door for Mbeumo’s departure.
Mbeumo’s talent and young age may have already piqued the interest of bigger clubs, but his potential alone makes him an attractive option for Manchester United. His addition would no doubt bolster their attacking options. Beyond that, though, it’d do wonders for their long-term strategic goals in the transfer market.
Hojlund’s Future
As Manchester United continues its efforts to sign Mbeumo, Rasmus Hojlund’s future hangs in the balance. It is not hard to understand why the 24-year-old striker has Inter Milan dreaming of a selection of reinforcements for their injury-ravaged squad. According to reports, it would appear that the Italian club considers Hojlund a worthy successor. This all comes at an especially opportune moment, as Cristian Chivu is prepared to assume head coaching responsibilities.
The word “pushing Hojlund out of the door” reflects the growing impression that he would be leaving. That rumor was recently confirmed by reporting from Sky Sports’ Mark McAdam and Kaveh Solhekol. Should Hojlund complete his transfer to Inter Milan, Manchester United will intensify their pursuit of a new forward. Especially if they don’t find someone right away, the urgency to get someone new would grow.
Exploring Other Options
Apart from Mbeumo, Manchester United have been looking at other forward options. Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting has become the target, especially after his sensational World Cup performances and goal-scoring ability. Ruben Amorim, the new head coach of Sporting, has worked with Gyokeres before and is a huge fan of his talents.
According to reports in Portugal, Gyokeres himself is keen on a move to a Champions League club. This ambition makes Manchester United’s plans even more complicated. As ever it’s worth pointing out that Manchester United has not made any official contact with Sporting regarding Gyokeres. No actual negotiations have taken place between the two clubs.
