Malik Nabers, the first wide receiver taken by Big Blue, recently went under the knife. The procedure targeted a full-thickness rip in his right knee’s ACL. He sustained the injury during Indianapolis’ Week 4 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. The outcome of the process came one month later. Dr. Daniel E. Cooper, head team physician of the Dallas Cowboys, did the surgery.
Nabers was grabbing at his right knee while in the air, resulting in a gruesome injury. This negative development will greatly affect his exciting breakout season. Before the injury, the second-year pro amassed a stat line of 18 receptions, 271 yards, and two touchdowns through eight games played. Last year, he dazzled the world with a record-breaking performance as a rookie. He was drafted sixth overall from LSU, and his blazing talent was evident. That year, he recorded a then-franchise-record 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns.
In 19 NFL games, that’s a record 127 receptions for Nabers. This milestone places him second all-time for the franchise. In front of him are only Odell Beckham Jr. He and his backfield mate, Cam Skattebo, had accounted for nine of the Giants’ 21 TDs this fall. Sadly, both players went out with injuries.
This is my first post since Nabers came through his very extensive and complicated surgery with flying colors. Once the swelling has decreased, and with several weeks of prehab already behind him, he will begin rehabilitation immediately upon leaving the hospital. The rehab process will be extremely important for Sherman’s recovery, as ACL tears often need a timeline of around nine months. If all goes according to plan, Nabers will be primed to make his return appearance. His goal is to be back at it before next season starts up in September.
That’s a great disappointment for Nabers. It’s unfortunate for Giants fans too, who have seen him make a great deal of progress since coming into the league. His prospective return cannot be overstated, considering Treat’s sensational statistics and impact on the team’s overall success.
