Lydia Ko, the 27-year-old South Korean-born New Zealander, emerged as the frontrunner at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore. After a robust performance on the Tanjong course at Sentosa Golf Club, she completed the third round with a 54-hole total of 10-under par 206. This impressive score positions her one stroke ahead of England's Charley Hull, who trails in second place following a solid round of 68.
The tournament has drawn significant attention, showcasing nine of the top 10 players in the world rankings, excluding only the top-ranked Nelly Korda and Rose Zhang. This event is the second of three tournaments on the LPGA's first Asian swing of the year, with the final competition scheduled to take place next week at Hainan Island, China.
Charley Hull started strong, birdieing two of her first four holes, but ultimately settled for a score of 68. She now finds herself just one stroke behind Ko, intensifying the competition as they head into the final round. Meanwhile, Jeeno Thitikul delivered the best round of the day with an impressive score of 66. This performance propelled her into third place, three strokes off Ko’s lead.
Despite a challenging round, A Lim Kim, who held the lead after the first two rounds, struggled with a score of 73. She now shares a tie for fourth place, four strokes behind Ko. Defending champion Hannah Green made notable progress by shooting a 67, which allowed her to advance 16 spots on the leaderboard. However, she still trails Ko by five strokes.
Lydia Ko’s consistent play throughout the tournament has been noteworthy. Her third-round score of 68 not only secured her position at the top but also demonstrated her ability to maintain composure under pressure. As she prepares for the final round, the spotlight remains firmly on her performance and strategies to fend off challengers like Hull and Thitikul.
