Luke Wood has extended his future with Lancashire, signing a new three-year deal to exclusively play white-ball cricket. The left-arm fast bowler moved to the club from Nottinghamshire in 2020. Since inking the deal, Salt’s cricketing star has continued to rise after an impressive debut season in the global T20 format at Emirates Old Trafford.
Ever since he set foot on campus, Wood has been the prototypical underdog success story for the program. With 84 wickets in only 72 T20 Blast matches, he’s an electrifying talent. At 30 years of age, having been one of the most successful bowlers in history, his focus has moved almost solely to white-ball cricket. He moved from playing all formats when starting with the club. Notably, Wood has gone two summers in a row without playing a match in Championship cricket. This decision underlines his depth of feeling for the shorter format.
Besides his domestic success, Wood has been able to take the ball and represent England in three 50-over internationals and 14 T20 matches. He recently adopted a central contract from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for the first time. This contract, set to kick in in 2026, is a testament to his growing stature in the sport.
Wood has played a pivotal role in helping Lancashire reach three T20 Finals Days during his time with the team. His ambition to lift that T20 Blast trophy remains the motivation to keep him at the club for even longer.
“Having reached three Finals Days during my time at the club, it feels like we are really close to success in the Vitality Blast, and it would be really special to achieve that with this group,” – Luke Wood.
Looking forward, Wood will be freed up for Lancashire’s T20 Blast matches next summer, depending on his global duties. This clarity when it comes to his future is something that Wood has come to value immensely.
“Playing for England is a huge honour, but Lancashire feels like home for me now, and to have clarity over the next few years is brilliant,” – Luke Wood.
