Luka Doncic, the point guard of the L.A. Lakers, recently signed his own three-year, $165 million contract as an extension. He really took the celebration over the top! Following an impressive season, he attended a Backstreet Boys concert at The Sphere in Las Vegas, where he celebrated alongside the iconic boy band. This extension ensures Doncic will be a Laker for years. He came over to the team in February, after being traded from the Dallas Mavericks.
In an April interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Doncic revealed to the world that he’s a Backstreet Boys superfan. He took great pleasure in their being called his favorite boy band. This deep bond made that bash backstage, as he celebrated an emotional first one, all the more meaningful to him. That day, one of the photos that spread widely on social media — a photo showing their ecstasy — was of their faces. Doncic was pictured schmoozing with the Backstreet Boys and other Lakers luminaries, like governor Jeanie Buss, future majority owner Mark Walter, and general manager Rob Pelinka.
Doncic’s leap to the pros has been similarly defined by gaudy stats on the court. Last season, he averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists, solidifying himself as a key player for the team. His remarkable talents have earned him five All-Star appearances. He is most focused on the other list, on making sure his name is mentioned alongside the other legends of Lakers’ history.
