The 40-year-old made the announcement on social media Wednesday, expressing her gratitude for a career that has spanned over a decade and includes numerous accolades.

Lewis reflected on her journey in golf, stating, “Never in a million years would I have thought this journey playing golf would still be going in 2025, but the time has come to put the clubs away.” She made clear that her physical health played a major role in her choice. “Just as for Adam, my body has told me it’s time,” she confided, as she finishes her professional career.

Undeniably, during her career on the tour, Lewis has been a powerful competitor, dominating female athletes, and capturing unprecedented accolades in the world of sports. She won two major championships: the 2011 Kraft Nabisco Championship and the 2013 Women’s British Open. Plus, she’s been LPGA Tour Player of the Year on two other occasions, in 2012 and 2014. To date, she has completed 374 events in her career. She’s won more than $14 million, putting her at No. 14 on the LPGA’s all-time money list.

Lewis’s influence hasn’t just been felt in individual play, as she played on four Solheim Cup teams. In September 2024, she captained the United States team to a triumphant defeat of Europe. This huge victory cemented her incredible legacy in women’s golf.

In her announcement, Lewis shared in-depth and sincere appreciation for the experiences and opportunities she had throughout her career. She tweeted this photo with the message “Thank you!” More importantly, it’s a stunning tribute to the love and support she’s gotten from her fans and her fellow players.

As she steps away from competitive golf, Stacy Lewis’ legacy is a wonderful story of overcoming obstacles on the way to greatness. Her contributions to the sport are not going to be easily forgotten now that she leaves competitive play.
