Lonnie Walker IV has agreed to a two-year, $3 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, marking his return to the NBA. Previously playing for Zalgiris Kaunas in the Euroleague this season, Walker utilized an NBA-out clause in his contract to rejoin the league. At 26 years old, he brings experience and agility to the 76ers as they aim to enhance their standing in the highly competitive Eastern Conference.
Walker enters his seventh NBA season with notable credentials. He began his career with the San Antonio Spurs, who selected him as the 18th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Last season, Walker showcased his offensive prowess, averaging nearly 10 points per game and shooting an impressive 38.4% from three-point range during his stint with the Brooklyn Nets. His participation in the Boston Celtics' training camp in October further honed his skills.
The Philadelphia 76ers currently find themselves tied with the Brooklyn Nets for 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings. They are 1.5 games behind the Chicago Bulls, who hold the 10th spot and the last position in the East's play-in tournament picture. The team is also 8.5 games back from the Detroit Pistons for the sixth and final guaranteed playoff position. Walker's addition is seen as a strategic move to bolster their offense, which ranks 22nd in the league, and provide much-needed athleticism and scoring punch on the wings.
