London Spirit crushed the Oval Invincibles in their last game of The Hundred. They went on to win comfortably by eight wickets. This victory was immensely important in furthering the Spirit’s hopes of making it past group play and into the knockout rounds of the competition. The final took place at The Oval outside London. The hosts scored 108 runs in their 100-ball innings, losing eight wickets along the way.
They each picked up two wickets, while both giving away only 12 runs. Their bowling performance was magical. They displayed fantastic bowlers control, leaking just seven runs off the last 15 balls of the powerplay. Dean put on a field day, highlighted by a stunning one-handed catch that sent Meg Lanning back to the dugout. That was such a big security blanket… Lanning had looked such a threat making 53 off 29 balls.
The Invincibles found it hard to get any momentum against a relentless Spirit bowling attack. Although Georgia Redmayne managed to contribute 42 runs from 30 balls, the team could not establish a strong foundation, ultimately finishing their innings at 108-8. In contrast, Kate Coppack nearly claimed a wicket with her first ball. Lanning punched the ball behind, but sadly, it went unheeded.
In response, London Spirit showcased their batting prowess. Kira Chathli led the charge, scoring an impressive 53 runs, with Redmayne’s earlier contribution helping to set things up for her. The Spirit achieved the goal comfortably, scoring 112 runs with 8 wickets in hand in just 62 balls.
With this historic victory, the unknown magic of new home team London Spirit is revealed. It ensures their qualification into The Hundred’s knockout rounds.
