London City Triumphs While West Ham Struggles to Find Form

London City Lionesses secured a much-needed win at home to Liverpool. This exciting game, which was their second victory of the season, included last-minute drama and a personal best from their ace. The match was hosted at London City’s home ground. The team proved their mettle as they played through a tough match that featured heavy whistles and lack of execution. Each team is feeling the pressure in its own way.

Brighton struggled in their game against West Ham, especially without the influence of player Fran Kirby. The lack of incisiveness in the final third resulted in a lackluster performance as a whole. The defining mark from Lynn Wilms came with an angle-defying free-kick that pretty much ended West Ham’s hopes of recovery. This goal only served to drive West Ham deeper into the dirt. They have now fallen to the bottom of the already relegation-bound league table, with a harrowing -14 goal diff.

Ongoing Struggles for West Ham and Liverpool

West Ham’s troubles mounted as they struggled to establish themselves in the top flight. With every game that goes by, their plight only gets worse, and they find themselves rock-bottom of the table. Their team offensive ability is shown by their 30 goal differential, ranking them second in the league.

Liverpool’s is the most extreme case. As such, they find themselves sitting in second-bottom place in the league after scoring just a single goal this season, and that on the opening weekend. Liverpool’s continued ineffectiveness in front of goal is terrifying. They’ve failed to score in three straight away matches, the first time that’s happened since January of 2020.

Liverpool had the task of facing London City, who as ever, made life difficult and ensured their opponents turned over every opportunity. Regrettably, they faced difficulty converting those opportunities into scores. Rachel Daly and Hanson each missed opportunities to finish in front of goal. Then a questionable penalty given to London City completely changed the direction of the match.

London City’s Resilience and Clean Sheet

London City showed tremendous fight during their match-up with Liverpool. On top of that, they managed to record their first clean sheet since promotion! That kind of solid defensive performance has been the backbone of the team’s surprising success this year. That triumph was concluded with great drama as an 89th-minute spot-kick gave London City a second goal cushion to their victory.

The penalty was the reward from continued pressure from London City, who took almost every chance Liverpool gifted them on defense. Cathinka Tandberg has developed into one of the top players this season. She did score her third goal of the season, capping off one of the top performances on the team.

This win represents a big success for London City. It raises their atmosphere and puts them in a good position early on in the league’s inaugural stages. With Martin Ho at the helm, Tottenham has won all four of their games to start the season. Such success is a testament to successful management and how good management can be victorious when other teams are cooked.

Leicester’s Continued Struggles

Leicester City were not without their difficulties in a rare six-pointer with fellow strugglers West Ham. It turned out to be a fantastic game, with Noemie Mouchon equalising Ornella Vignola’s opening goal for LOSC to make the final score 1-1. Leicester might be the one getting burned by the anger. That’s the 15th game they’ve lost in the Women’s Super League since last season from a losing position.

Elena Linari’s impressive strike off the crossbar was a bright moment for Leicester, but ultimately it was not enough to secure all three points. It’s all about how quickly Leicester can shake this off as they take the field in England’s toughest league. To move up the table, they need to do a better job of creating victories out of all those draws.
