Logan Cooke got his first big career break as an artist. At the end of his rookie contract, he signed a four-year extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars that made him the highest-paid punter in NFL history. The announcement arrived as the Jaguars hope to shore up their roster before next season. This deal is a testament to Cooke’s growth and value as a player since being drafted to the team.
Cooke, a seventh-round selection of the Jaguars in 2018, has had a meteoric ascent to relevance in the NFL. Since joining the NFL, he is the clear net punting average leader with over 43.5 yards, a very impressive net distance. It all came together last season, as he displayed elite run-blocking ability and finally made the Pro Bowl roster on his third try. He ranked second in the NFL with an astounding 44.8 yard net punting average.
Cooke is the second longest-tenured player on the Jaguars’ roster. While his experience and reliability is just what the doctor ordered on defense, it can’t be overstated how huge that’d be on special teams. His ability to pin opponents deep is elite. Since 2018, he’s made the most punts with the opponent starting inside their own 10-yard line — of all 32 punters in the NFL.
Prior to the extension, Cooke was entering the final year of a four-year deal that commenced in 2022. He was scheduled to make $3 million in 2025. The new deal locks in his financial security for him and his family. It further solidifies his standing as a key part of the Jaguars’ special teams plan of attack going forward.
The Jaguars’ decision to invest in Cooke demonstrates their confidence in his abilities and commitment to building a competitive team. As they prepare for next season, they understand a punter of Cooke’s quality will be crucial. His skill will be even more important when the game gets to those key moments.
