The game, set to kick off at 8:15 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN, comes after a disappointing 38-6 loss to the Ravens in Week 7 of the 2023 season. Head Coach Dan Campbell is focusing on how his team can improve against a formidable opponent that has historically dominated their matchups.
In the teams’ previous meeting, the Lions dug themselves into quite the chasm, down 21-0 at the break. This ominous juxtaposition makes their task in this coming contest all the more daunting. The Ravens are still a team that has proven to be a very difficult matchup. They pride themselves on a 6-1 series record versus the Lions and five consecutive series victories. The Lions are 292-1-1 all-time in franchise history when holding a 17-point or larger lead at halftime. They’ve won 16 straight regular-season games under these circumstances!
Quarterback Jared Goff understands the importance of going back and watching the tape from their first meeting with the Ravens. “We just kind of went in there and they took it to us,” Goff stated. He expressed respect for the Ravens as a team and emphasized the need for his squad to prove they can compete at that level. “We’ve got to go in there and prove it and show them that we obviously can hang with them and we’re a great team,” he added.
Go Ravens, what a historic ride! Given that they had only scored 40 points total in their first 3 games of the 2024 season, it would be a franchise first. With this momentum, they’re a dangerous team as the Lions will expect to meet them Monday night.
New Lions head coach Dan Campbell knows the penalty-heavy physicalness that often accompanies playing Baltimore. “You don’t forget those because we didn’t even give ourselves a chance,” he remarked, reflecting on the last game. Campbell is the first to make sure his squad doesn’t return with the same results. He mentioned that if they want to have any shot at winning, they’ll have to meet the Ravens’ physicality.
Scottie Montgomery, offensive coordinator and integral member of the coaching staff, reiterated Campbell’s feelings about the physicality of the game. The physicality of this game is gonna be through the roof. We know that. That’s the good news, the bad news and the reality we have to deal with. We have to do a whole lot better than we did last go around, as Montgomery said.
As the Lions prepare to take on the Ravens, Goff emphasizes that while both teams have evolved since their last meeting, the core lessons remain relevant. “We definitely have a chip on our shoulder this week,” he finished.
