Linn Grant, a 26-year-old Swedish golfer, showcased her talent on Saturday at the Pelican Golf Club by shooting a remarkable 5-under 65, granting her a one-shot lead in The Annika Championship. Grant’s total score of 14-under 196 puts her just one shot ahead of another playing partner, Jennifer Kupcho.
It was an outstanding round overall, but the highlight was definitely Grant’s two key 15-foot birdies sprinkled throughout her five-birdie performance. She exhibited an enviable mixing depth, accuracy and command live on stage. In fact, on her way to that zero-bogey round, she missed just one green and two fairways.
Grant’s previous birdie came on the par-5 14th. Then with some superb touch, the defending champ holed a bunker shot from the side of the green, stretching her advantage even more. She would need to do it at The Annika to continue her amazing run one more time. She’d get at least one win around the world for six straight years.
With only this event and the CME Group Tour Championship remaining in the LPGA schedule for 2025, Grant is focused on securing another title. In fact she gained incredible success on three separate, highly successful tours. As an amateur, she captured two wins on the Nordic Golf League, one on the Sunshine Ladies Tour in South África, and one more on the Ladies European Tour.
Reflecting on her performance, Grant stated, “I hit a lot of greens. I think that’s been my secret this week.” Her steady all-around game has her poised as she seeks to notch her next trophy.
Jennifer Kupcho, who is trailing Grant by one stroke, shared her excitement about the new tournament format. “I think the setup was still fine. They do a really good job setting up this golf course every year,” she remarked.
That competition is getting intense. Grant is focused not just on growing her lead but closing the year with another victory.
