LiAngelo Ball has ventured beyond the basketball court, signing a lucrative deal with Def Jam and Universal Music Group. This groundbreaking agreement, valued at up to $13 million with $8 million guaranteed, marks a significant milestone in Ball's burgeoning music career. He operates under his own record label, Born2Ball Music Group, which has already seen success with his debut track "Tweaker."
"Tweaker," which showcases a blend of early 2000s rap and modern hip-hop, has captivated audiences since its release. The track premiered on the WorldstarHipHop YouTube page on January 3 and has amassed nearly 8 million views by January 13. On Spotify, "Tweaker" boasts 1,398,725 plays and impressively entered the top 10 streaming chart for the U.S. on January 8. Ball's brother, Lonzo, described 2025 as the "year of G[elo]," highlighting the song's widespread impact.
LiAngelo's transition to music comes after an unselected bid in the 2018 NBA draft. Despite signing training camp deals with the Detroit Pistons in 2020 and the Charlotte Hornets in 2021 and 2022, he never secured a spot on a regular-season roster. During his tenure in the NBA G League with the Greensboro Swarm from 2021 to 2023, he averaged 4.4 points, 1.1 rebounds, and played 13.1 minutes per game.
The middle brother of NBA players Lonzo and LaMelo Ball, LiAngelo has carved out a new path with his label Born2Ball Music Group. His collaboration with industry giants Def Jam and Universal Music Group signals a promising future in music. In addition to "Tweaker," Ball is working on a second song that promises to build on his initial success.
