The 33-year-old all-rounder has signed a two-year contract extension with his home county Somerset. Expiry of this new deal will see him remain at the club through to the end of the 2027 season. He has just enjoyed a remarkable season, carrying Somerset on his back to the T20 Blast title in a one handed T20 team to a title win. Which is why they beat Hampshire at Edgbaston last weekend!
Guided by Gregory’s leadership, Somerset lifted the T20 Blast trophy in 2023. This win was a huge accomplishment for both the player and city. During his side’s victorious final match, he scored 18 runs and claimed one wicket. What made this performance even more exciting was the fact that he was both a batsman and bowler. It was his on-field dominance that truly established him as an offensive engine and integral cog within the team.
Gregory is Somerset’s all time leading wicket taker in T20 cricket. This achievement, in our opinion, highlights all of his wizardry and unmatched work ethic over the years. Throughout his career with Somerset, he has amassed over 7,500 runs and taken 637 wickets across all formats, further establishing himself as one of the club’s most valuable players.
Expressing his enthusiasm about his role, Gregory stated, “I still get a buzz when I drive through the gates every day, and I just can’t describe what it means to me to be able to lead this team.” His deep connection to Somerset is evident, as he emphasized, “There’s something genuinely special about Somerset and I wouldn’t want to be playing my cricket anywhere else.”
As he looks forward to the upcoming seasons, Gregory’s leadership will remain crucial for Somerset’s aspirations in domestic cricket. The club continued to express faith in his skillset, as recently as signing him to a contract extension. This decision illustrates his deep devotion to the team and mission.
