Leicestershire Secures Ben Green on Permanent Deal

Leicestershire County Cricket Club have completed the permanent signing of all-rounder Ben Green from Somerset. The 27-year-old allrounder will join the squad on November 1. He certainly deserved it, after a series of very successful loan spells at the club.

Green first joined Leicestershire on a short term loan in April 2024. And since joining, he’s proved to be an essential part of the squad. He returned to them for the last three rounds of their County Championship bid. Over the summer, he made the decision to stay longer, adding two additional July appearances. He proved that he was the complete product with the bat in red-ball and white-ball cricket.

During his state career with Leicestershire, Green has been a stalwart in the four-day team. He re-signed for the first seven County Championship matches this summer. Then, he returned for a pair of games near the end of June. His contributions have become an important part of the formula behind Leicestershire’s remarkable success. In Division Two they now have a hugely impressive 28-point lead over second-placed Glamorgan.

Leicestershire’s Head Coach, Alfonso Thomas, said Green would be a valuable addition.

“We’ve seen over the last year and a half the skillset Ben offers, and we know he’ll add a lot of value to our side in both red-ball and white-ball cricket in the coming seasons.” – Head Coach Alfonso Thomas

Green’s signing turns out to be the fourth player that Leicestershire has brought on board this week. He’ll be joined by fellow recruits Jonny Tattersall, Josh Davey and Stephen Eskinazi. It’s clear that the club is making moves to further bolster its squad with an eye towards competing in 2021 & beyond.

“He’s cool, calm and collected under pressure and has fantastic leadership qualities.” – Head Coach Alfonso Thomas

In Green’s own words, he couldn’t have been more excited about putting down permanent roots.

With these developments, Leicestershire aims to continue its upward trajectory in county cricket, bolstered by Green’s all-round capabilities and leadership qualities. The club seems destined to continue making waves in their continued adventures with such bright, young talent under contract.

“I’m so excited to make Leicestershire my home for the next few years and help to keep pushing this team forward,” – Ben Green
