Legacy Continues as Charlie Woods Earns All-America Selection

Charlie Woods is in the news again! He earned a prized position on the first team of the American Junior Golf Association’s (AJGA) yearly All-America list, much like his mythical pop, Tiger Woods. With his win, a junior at The Benjamin School in South Florida has qualified along with 11 other gifted young golfers. Combined, they have displayed unparalleled talent and character this past year.

He also won his first major title at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May. His overall performance this season has proven why he’s one of the most gifted golfers. It also shows the overwhelming impact of his father’s legacy in the sport. Tiger Woods, a two-time AJGA Player of the Year in 1991 and 1992, continues to inspire young athletes like his son.

Aphrodite Deng of Richmond, B.C., owned the junior golf circuit this season. She became the highest ranked female player during that period, winning the U.S. Girls Junior Championship and two of the biggest western AJGA tournaments. Her stellar performances helped make her the Player of the Year in the girls’ division. This is a remarkable accomplishment that further illustrates the unprecedented wealth of talent we have among junior golfers today.

Miles Russell, a 17-year-old newcomer from New Jersey, was named AJGA Player of the Year for the second straight year. He shares this prestigious honor with none other than pipe pro Charlie Woods. This summer, Russell further established his credentials by serving as an alternate at the Walker Cup. He further solidifies his rising star status in junior golf.

The AJGA’s All-America teams celebrate the top junior golfers who excel not only in competition but demonstrate strong character and leadership qualities. The highly competitive selection process takes into account many aspects, from their performance at tournaments to sportsmanship and their contributions to the growth of the sport.

Charlie Woods being picked to the All-America team is symbolic of all the awesome personal milestones he’s achieved since arriving on campus. It cements the overall Woods family’s long-lasting legacy in the space of golf. He’s been engaged in on the ground game development and competing at very high levels. Like everyone, we’re anxious to see how he will build off this foundation in the years to come.
