LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers' formidable forward, etched his name in the NBA record books once again by becoming the oldest player to score over 40 points in a game. On Saturday night, James delivered an electrifying performance against the Golden State Warriors, contributing to the Lakers' 120-112 victory. At 40 years old, James surpassed Michael Jordan's record, set in 2003, demonstrating that age is merely a number when it comes to his prowess on the court.
In addition to his remarkable scoring feat, James added 17 rebounds and 8 assists to his stat line, showcasing his all-around game. Luka Doncic watched from the bench, clad in a black Lakers sweatsuit, as he anticipates making his Lakers debut on Monday against the Utah Jazz. James started the game with a bang, hitting his first five 3-point attempts, including a spectacular sequence of three consecutive shots in just 28 seconds. The final shot in that sequence was a deep 34-foot "logo" three-pointer from center court.
The Lakers built a commanding lead early in the game, going up 45-23 with 9:09 remaining in the second quarter. James' precision from beyond the arc was evident as he locked horns with the Warriors' own sharpshooter, Stephen Curry. With this performance, James reminded everyone why he remains a force in the league.
"The biggest thing is we got the win, obviously," said LeBron James.
James has been focusing on perfecting his deep three-point shot this season, often practicing these shots during his pregame routine with assistance from Lakers assistant coach Greg St. Jean. His dedication paid off as he delivered a shooting masterclass against one of the league's finest.
"I always work on things that I'm going to shoot in the game or plays that I'm going to do in the game," James explained.
Reflecting on his storied career and achieving yet another milestone, James expressed humility and gratitude.
"But throughout my journey, anytime I've been named or in the category or whatever the case, crossed paths with any of the greats, it's always humbling. Just to know where I come from. And I love the game so much. So it's pretty cool," he said.
James also took time to praise Luka Doncic, highlighting Doncic's potential and impact as they look forward to his upcoming debut.
"I've been watching him since he got into this league," said James. "And what he's capable of doing is special. He's a super-duper special talent."
