Lamar Jackson Faces New Challenge with Toe Injury Amidst Struggles

Lamar Jackson, the quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, has several injuries to his right knee. Russell missed practice on Monday because of a toe injury. And Jackson has suffered another blow. Over the last month, he has been bitten by the injury bug — knee irritation, an ankle sprain, and a left hamstring strain missed him three games.

Despite his physical challenges, Jackson has had a notable season so far, throwing 15 touchdowns against three interceptions. His Quarterback Rating (QBR) is 63.3, which is 11th in the league. For whatever reason, his performance has greatly declined in the last three games. Jackson hasn’t been able to get to a 60% completion rate and 200 passing yards in three consecutive games. This odd run is as remarkable as it is unprecedented in his eight-year career.

Adding to his plight, Jackson has battled extreme pressure as an NFL passer. He’s been under threat of the sack 24 times this year. That’s one better than the number he was just dropped in all of 2022! And indeed, as the increase in sacks has dropped him into a bit of a rut. Yet, now he faces headwinds on the literal and metrical levels.

Jackson holds a remarkable record against his main rival, the Cincinnati Bengals, with a 10-1 win-loss ratio. Over his entire career against the Bengals, he’s racked up 24 total touchdowns to only four measly interceptions suffered. As the Ravens prepare for their upcoming game against this division rival, Jackson’s ability to perform under pressure will be crucial.

“I can’t call it, but I’m out there, so I feel like I should still be able to do what I do,” Jackson stated regarding his current condition and performance.
