The deal is for a total of $33 million, ensuring his place on the team for years to come. This outlay comprises $23 million in guaranteed funds. For the 24-year-old cornerback, though, it will represent an important milestone, as he has developed into an important asset for the Rams defense.
Williams, a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has taken remarkable steps during those two seasons. He’s tallied an astounding 31 scrimmage touchdowns. That accomplishment as of week 2 has him tied with Jahmyr Gibbs for the most in the NFL over that span. His performance has indeed shot up, cementing him as one of the top players in the league. As a result, he’s currently the seventh-highest average annual salary of any running back.
Since early in the 2023 campaign, Williams has emerged as the Rams’ clear-cut lead back. Yet, his contributions have been legion. He’s rushed for 2,443 yards the past two seasons, third-most in the nation behind only household names Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley. Combined with his uncanny ability to simply move the chains, he’s become an essential part of the team’s offensive bread-and-butter.
Prior to signing his extension, Williams expressed his commitment to the Rams and his desire to remain with the organization. He was the last player to report to training camp two weeks ago, when negotiations with his contract were held. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was at the Rams’ training camp at Loyola Marymount University to make these negotiations happen.
