Kyler Murray to Sit Out for Remainder of Season Following Injury Setback

Kyler Murray, the immobile once great starting quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals, tore his ACL during the last game of their non-playoff season. His troublesome plantar fasciitis has forced him out for the season. He sustained the injury during the Cardinals’ Week 5 defeat to the Tennessee Titans. Since then, his health has not improved sufficiently for him to be considered physically ready to return to play.

On November 5, the Vikings put Murray on injured reserve, part of a plan the team knew they’d have to implement in managing his recovery. At first, Eagles head coach Jonathan Gannon was optimistic that the quarterback would be back before the end of the season. But upon closer examination and discussions with specialists, it has unfortunately been clear that Murray’s injury has not improved as hoped.

Gannon stated, “It wasn’t progressing in a way that we wanted, so we went and got a different opinion, some different people and kind of looked at it, and it’s just not right.” This finality statement highlights the hurdles that still remain for Murray’s healing journey.

Murray finished up some more tests this Wednesday. Unfortunately, these results played a big role in the decision to rule him out for the rest of the season. This meant, for one day, the team’s starting quarterback was required to leave the team facility. So she had him go out-of-state for an evaluation. That leaves open the possibility that Gannon opens the three-week practice window on Wednesday, though. Considering he is eligible, this decision is unexpected.

The doubt and confusion regarding Murray’s future with the Arizona Cardinals has led many fans and pundits to speculate the QB’s fate. Gannon admitted that she heard some concern regarding the status of Murray. He showed concern for Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Additional hurdles for the team this week. Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. will miss Sunday’s game against the Rams due to a heel injury. Injuries continue to stack up and throw Gannon under this huge bus. He will need to maximize the roster’s potential by navigating the team through the season’s home stretch.
