In a thrilling matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kyle Pitts showcased one of the most remarkable performances by a tight end in NFL history. The Atlanta Falcons completed a thrilling 29-28 come-from-behind victory. On the field, Pitts was the biggest factor, catching 11 passes for 166 yards and scoring three touchdowns. This performance did not only highlight Pitts’ unique and tremendous skillset, it served as a career defining moment.
Pitts became the first tight end since Shannon Sharpe in 1996 to achieve at least 150 receiving yards and three touchdowns in a single game. His performance in the first half was particularly impressive, as he surpassed 100 yards and two touchdown runs in the first two quarters of play. This feat made him the first Falcons player to accomplish such a performance in the first half since Calvin Ridley did so in 2018.
During the contest, Pitts hooked up with quarterback Kirk Cousins for scoring passes of 8 yards, 17 yards and 7 yards. Importantly, his ability to be a proper chain-mover was evidenced by his impressive clutch factor. On the game winning drive, his key 14 yard catch helped get the Falcons into field goal range. In a decisive moment late in the fourth quarter, Pitts secured a touchdown catch that saw him land in the end zone, sealing his historic night.
“It means a lot,” – Kyle Pitts
This game became Pitts’ first 100 yard receiving game since his rookie season in 2021. Reflecting on the win, he expressed his gratitude, stating, “We’ve been having our ups and downs through the year.” After weeks of hard work and plenty of wrangling, this small team celebrated a big win. It represented just their second victory in their last nine outings.
“Pitts recognized the collaborative efforts as well and highlighted the family feel of the team. “Obviously, it’s not fun to be eliminated early. We’re resilient. The team we have, we’re just tight together, tight-knit. We fight for each other,” he remarked.”
Cousins lauded Pitts as a freak, saying he was unlike any other player he’s ever encountered. “He’s just a talented player who can really separate,” he said, underscoring the impact Pitts had on the game.
