Kris Boyd Makes Surprise Visit to Jets’ Facility After Recovery from Shooting

Kris Boyd, a cornerback recently signed by the New York Jets, made a remarkable appearance at the team’s facility after recovering from a shooting incident in mid-November. The 25-year-old player was shot in the abdomen during an altercation outside a Manhattan restaurant on Nov. 16. The bullet shattered his lung and got stuck in his pulmonary artery. In fact, during the first three days of his hospitalization, he was in critical but stable condition.

In the aftermath of that shooting, medical first responders immediately transported Boyd to Bellevue Hospital. There, he had to have dozens of surgeries on his life-threatening injuries. On November 19, he took to social media to spread the news to his millions of loyal fans and followers. He shared that he was suffering from health problems related to the shooting. Unfortunately, almost two weeks later, he was back in the hospital with complications. Boyd was already out for the year with a shoulder injury he suffered in training camp.

On his surprise visit to the Jets’ facility, Boyd attended a special teams meeting, delighting teammates who had not expected to see him. Boyd was joined by his fellow teammates, Jamien Sherwood and Irvin Charles, as well as a friend who saw the shooting happen. His joy and exuberance immediately infected a room full of anxiety with relief and excitement. Harrison Phillips, who was Boyd’s teammate on the Minnesota Vikings in 2022, noticed how quickly Boyd felt accepted by his new teammates. They crowded around him and greeted him with “daps up,” high-fives and half hugs.

The shooting inside the eatery occurred in the early morning hours shortly after 2 a.m. It all began when Boyd entered into a verbal confrontation with another crew over their attire. To its credit, the New York Police Department quickly flagged the interoperability problem. Yet the case is still active, and no arrests have been made so far.

Boyd’s return to the Jets’ facility for the first time since his injury is a promising step in his recovery process. His resilience not only carried his teammates through but has served as an inspiration to fans who’ve been following his incredible path to the NFL up close. The Jets’ organization is standing by Boyd as he works through both his health issues and the pursuit of his own professional career.
