Korda Adapts with New Putter Amid Challenging Conditions

One of the stars of women’s golf, Nelly Korda, has a hard road back this season. She’s getting used to a new putter as she prepares for the upcoming fall tournaments. Korda, of course, just faced a dramatic reversal of fortune in the women’s world rankings. She opened up about what she’s been doing to adapt and how she feels about Florida’s golf courses, where she now resides …

That extreme summer heat left scores of area courses in rough shape. Korda mentioned the Florida courses “definitely aren’t in the best shape” at this time of year. Despite this disappointment, she isn’t losing sight of the big picture, and to improve her speed, she’s made some modifications to her bike.

Korda added a new putter to her bag, a similar model to one she used last season. In her own words about the decision to move, “Just something new. She decided to switch to a different grip to match with her putter. Taking it on the road through Canada, she found it to be an unexpectedly delightful experience. Those adjustments are obviously working magic as she has decided to leave the putter in her bag after rave reviews.

It’s worth noting that earlier this year Korda notched two top 10 finishes. His most notable performance came with a stellar third-place run at the Ford Championship in Phoenix in late-March. Her overall best days in the top 10 came earlier this season.

Just in Korda’s last round, she shot a 67. Things took a turn when hers fell short, rolling back to her feet, resulting in a bogey and final score of 69.

Korda’s impressive recent stretch follows a stellar seven-win 2024 season. Her big surprise two weeks ago was a big setback. Ko recently lost her title of the No. 1 player in the women’s world rankings to Atthaya Thitikul.

In reflecting on the unpredictable nature of golf, Allisen Corpuz remarked, “Just feel like golf is such a funny game.” Korda knows this feeling well as she has showered in the highs and lows of her game. She’s always having to re-calibrate based on what’s happening in the environment too.
