Kobbie Mainoo, a 19-year-old football sensation, has quickly established his presence in the world of professional football. Currently playing for Manchester United and the England national team, he has emerged as one of the best-performing deep-lying midfielders in the game. This season, Mainoo has already started four matches for England at Euro 2024, including the highly-anticipated final. "I love being on the ball," he shared, emphasizing his comfort in tight spaces developed through futsal experiences. His versatility has allowed him to play various positions; he started as a striker in his academy days before moving to No 10 during United's FA Youth Cup-winning campaign in 2021/22.
Despite Amorim's recognition of Mainoo as a "very good player," there remain questions about how to maximize his potential within the team's structure. While Mainoo enjoys playing further up the pitch, it appears that recent tactical decisions may hinder his ability to express himself fully. "I enjoyed it [playing in the No 10 position]," he noted regarding his adaptability and preference for a more forward role.
As Mainoo continues to develop, speculation regarding his future at Manchester United has emerged. He joins fellow teammates like Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho in discussions about potential exits from the club.
