Knicks’ Shamet Faces Extended Absence Due to Shoulder Injury

The New York Knicks made the move official, announcing that guard Landry Shamet will be sidelined for a minimum of four weeks. He has a torn rotator cuff. Shamet had a superb all-around effort defending home turf against the Dallas Mavericks in the most recent win. He added nine points in only 23 minutes of action.

Shamet has already established himself as one of the league’s premier three-point marksmen this season. He has an incredible three-point average of 42.4%! His shooting in particular has been a godsend for the Knicks. In those five games, he logged his best performance of the season before the injury.

Before suffering the shoulder injury, Shamet had really come into his own, having scored in double-digits in four straight games. This featured maybe the best individual performance of his season, as he scored 36 points during a 140-132 nail-biter win over the Miami Heat. His offensive contributions have been crucial for the Knicks, especially with him recently breaking into the starting rotation.

Now, the Knicks will have to figure out what it means to be without Shamet. He forces defenders out to the three-point line with his elite distance shooting. This skill is what helps her make room for her team to do their best work. And head coach Tom Thibodeau has his work cut out for him in this stretch. His new task will be to swiftly revise his game plan to make up for Shamet’s departure.

Shamet’s recovery will be closely monitored by the team’s medical staff. The organization hopes that with proper rehabilitation, he will return to form and continue to contribute at a high level.
