In a disappointing turn of events, golfer Patton Kizzire has withdrawn from the PGA Championship due to an undisclosed injury. That didn’t stop the 39-year-old actor from facing challenges in his first few rounds at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. At midday cut Friday, he was staring down the barrel of a one-over cut. At the start of the tournament, Kizzire was considered a long shot to even make the cut. Ultimately, he decided to pull out of the highly-ranked tournament.
Kizzire’s week at the championship had been a tumultuous one from day one. He painted a roller-coaster opening round of three-over 74 on Thursday, which had four birdies and seven bogeys. By Friday, his condition took a dark turn. That left him a miserable six over par after just ten holes, and with even slimmer hopes of making it into the weekend.
The golfer entered the season’s second major amid a challenging year, having missed eight cuts in the 2025 season prior to the tournament. His previous best finish this season was a share of 20th place in torrid Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Kizzire has had his battles, but he has overcome them to achieve what he calls the “trifecta,” three wins on the PGA Tour. His most recent victory was at the Procore Championship in Napa, California—from September 2024.
Kizzire’s withdrawal further marks another disappointment for him. He withdrew from the Valspar Championship earlier this year after only eight holes due to a back injury. The tour has not provided any further information on the specifics of his latest injury. That doesn’t mean it hasn’t had an impact on his performance this season.
As Kizzire walks away from the 2023 PGA Championship, he has far greater obstacles to come. With his recent struggles and injuries, fans and analysts alike will closely monitor his recovery and future performances as he aims to regain his competitive edge on the tour.
