George Kittle, the star tight end for the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers, will be making a return to practice this week. He’d just returned from injured reserve for a strained right hamstring. Kittle has missed the last two games since Week 2 after suffering a gruesome season-ending injury in the first game of the season against the Seattle Seahawks on September 7. His return is a big boost for the team. As they prepare for their second marquee matchup in as many weeks, this time against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night.
Kittle’s hamstring injury, sustained in the first half of his team’s win over Seattle last week. He left the field with 10:06 remaining in the second quarter after attempting to run a deep route. Once he departed the game, he was soon declared out for the remainder of the contest. Just later that week, he was put on injured reserve.
This week officially kicks off Kittle’s 21-day practice window. Now he’ll have a chance to rest his fitness and he might even be fit enough for the home opener against Atlanta. Though the timeline is unclear, Coach Kyle Shanahan is optimistic about Kittle’s recovery and rehab process. He said Kittle has been further tested and came out day-to-day.
“I think usually things like this are around three months,” – Kyle Shanahan
So far, his recovery timeline is going relatively on schedule. While Shanahan hasn’t posed all the important queries on Kittle’s status so far, optimism still abounds.
“But, I haven’t asked all the questions you guys are asking me yet, but I assume he’ll be good for the offseason workouts and stuff like that,” – Kyle Shanahan
