Kirstie Gordon Returns to Scotland Cricket Team

Kirstie Gordon, the gifted slow left-arm bowler from Huntly, Aberdeenshire, has agreed to return to represent the Scotland national cricket team. This decision comes after a successful stint with the England side, where she gained invaluable experience and recognition on the international stage.

Gordon, who made her international debut for England at just 14 years old, has been a significant figure in women’s cricket. She played in five matches during the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup, contributing to England’s journey to the finals. The musicianship, invention and creativity in her set were breathtaking. It wasn’t just the sign that it inspired—it caused the English domestic game to make a major rule change. Initially introduced to allow Scots, such as Gordon, to remove their status as foreign players. Consequently, exotic cricketers have found it all too easy to play within the English cricketing structure.

Prior to defecting, Gordon earned 60 caps for Scotland. More than eight years ago, she decided to follow that dream in a full-time capacity on the other side of the English professional system. Even as she experienced great acclaim, the pull back to her beginnings never left.

“It’s always been in the back of my mind in the last couple of years to return to Scotland,” said Gordon.

Gordon’s return is a blessing, as she becomes available for selection for Scotland’s November fixtures. She will be part of the team for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier. This contesting and creative event is about to happen in Nepal this January. Her experience and skills will definitely strengthen the player pool and staff going into this vital tournament.

Wallace, a key figure in the administration of Scottish cricket, said he was delighted by Gordon’s return.

“It’s exciting to hear Kirstie is now available for selection,” Wallace stated.

Along with her international duties, Gordon plays with Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce and Scotland wicketkeeper Sarah Bryce for her domestic team, Strathmore Knockhill Blaze. This new partnership makes her even more attuned to her teammates and creates a sense of depth in the team’s chemistry.

Whether in the field or off of it, Gordon’s cricketing journey perfectly embodies her passion and fortitude. Her journey from playing for Scotland to winning world-class forward accolades with England speaks volumes about her ability and determination. She’s preparing to return to the pitch with the Scotland national team. Both fans and teammates are counting the days until she can help the team on the field.
