The Sacramento Kings have agreed to a new deal with veteran guard Dennis Schroder, solidifying their backcourt ahead of the upcoming NBA season. At only 31 years of age, Schroder brings a perfect combination of experience and talent. He steps into an exciting backcourt mix that includes Malik Monk, Keon Ellis and Zach LaVine. Details of the contract have yet to be disclosed, but the relocation is said to provide the team with a significant competitive advantage.
Schroder’s played well as of late, too. In his stint with the now-New Jersey Nets, he averaged 18.4 points and 6.6 assists through 23 games to open last season. He makes a big impact on both sides of the court. His talent on both ends of the floor makes him a pivotal resource for the Kings as they pursue a longer playoff push.
Last season was one of chaos for Schroder, who ended up on three separate teams after being traded twice. He began the year in Brooklyn. When that plan failed, that led to a multi-team deal that eventually landed him with the Detroit Pistons. Even with a somewhat tumultuous path, Schroder was able to find his groove coming into the playoffs. He averaged 12.5 points and shot very well doing it – 49.1% overall and 47.6% from three.
His addition fits nicely with the current roster the Kings have, as his arrival offers them a bit more depth and versatility in their backcourt. His experience in high-pressure situations will be an indispensable asset. It’s imperative for the team to start establishing chemistry and cohesion with their new core. The presence of players like Monk, Ellis, and LaVine should help create a dynamic offensive strategy that utilizes Schroder’s playmaking abilities.
Schroder enters his 13th NBA season with a renewed sense of purpose, aiming to build on his past successes while overcoming earlier hurdles. The Kings’ management appears confident that his skills can translate into wins and bolster their overall performance in the league.
