Khris Middleton, a pivotal figure in the Milwaukee Bucks' ascension to NBA glory, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the city and its fans as he transitions to a new chapter with the Washington Wizards. Middleton, a three-time All-Star, was traded last week, marking the end of his illustrious tenure with the Bucks that began in the 2013-14 season. His journey with the Bucks saw him transform from a trade piece into a cornerstone of the team that clinched the 2021 NBA Championship.
Middleton fondly recalled his time in Milwaukee, where he played an instrumental role in ending the city’s 50-year wait for an NBA title. He reminisced about the unforgettable moments during the Bucks' magical run, including critical late-game shots and thrilling comeback victories. These memories, along with his contribution to bringing the Larry O'Brien Trophy back to Milwaukee, will remain etched in his mind.
"To the Milwaukee community: This city has become my home."
Middleton's impact went beyond the court. He cherished the relationships he built and the community initiatives he participated in, which left a lasting impression on him. Despite his departure, he assured that Milwaukee holds a special place in his heart.
"The relationships built, the community initiatives we've worked on together, and the countless memories made both on and off the court will stay with me forever."
During his time with the Bucks, Middleton became the franchise's career leader in 3-pointers and ranked third in points and assists. Only Giannis Antetokounmpo surpassed him in games and minutes played for the team. However, injuries limited his appearances to 33 games in the 2022-23 season and 55 games in 2023-24. He made his debut for the 2024-25 season on December 6 after undergoing offseason surgery on both ankles.
Middleton's trade to Washington came as part of a deal that included 2024 first-round pick AJ Johnson, bringing Kyle Kuzma to Milwaukee. Reflecting on his journey, Middleton expressed gratitude to the Bucks organization for nurturing his growth and development.
"To the Bucks organization: Thank you for believing in me, developing me, and giving me the opportunity to grow from a trade piece into an All-Star and champion."
Looking ahead, Middleton conveyed excitement for the opportunities that await him with the Wizards. Yet, he emphasized that this transition is not a farewell but an expression of gratitude to Milwaukee.
"As I begin this new chapter, I'm excited for the opportunities ahead. But Milwaukee will always hold a special place in my heart. This isn't goodbye — it's thank you."
