India pace bowler Khaleel Ahmed has gone back home to prepare for the Asian Cup after his short stint with Essex Cricket was cut short. The left-arm seamer, who joined the club in September, is going home because of the ongoing personal reasons. His departure comes as Essex prepares for the remainder of the County Championship season, where they currently sit seventh in Division One.
Ahmed was magnificent during his short spell at Essex, claiming 12 wickets in just two matches. Even with a bad average of 64, his performances really shone through. He was expected to be a key part of Essex’s 2023 One Day Cup push. That first week the team enjoyed a comprehensive win over Sussex, winning by an innings and 39 runs.
Warwickshire on Tuesday, now for Essex the opposition in a unique match-up. Ahmed’s absence will be even more pronounced as they try to build on their promising success this past season. The club, in turn, was very excited to maximize those skills with Ahmed this season. His international experience, capped off by 11 one-day internationals and 18 T20 games for India, made him an invaluable asset.
Issuing a statement on Ahmed’s departure, Essex Cricket said they are proud of the future star.
