Kevin Durant, the 15-time All-Star and one of the NBA’s most prolific scorers, has finalized a two-year contract extension with the Houston Rockets worth $90 million. Notably, this deal includes a player option for the 2027-28 campaign. This was crucial as it ensures that the veteran forward will be a big part of the franchise’s hopes for the next few years.
At 37 years old, Durant is still an elite-level professional basketball player. He’s the franchise record holder for career points per game averages in Oklahoma City Thunder history. He has this distinction for the Brooklyn Nets and Phoenix Suns. Durant left his legacy in Golden State by ranking second all-time in career points per game. He is second only to the great Wilt Chamberlain in this extraordinary category. His incredible longevity and consistency has landed him at least 25 points per game for an impressive 16 straight seasons. During his last full season with Phoenix he posted a dazzling statline of 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 62 games.
Durant’s extension only extends to his already-league-sustaining pile of gains. EXCLUSIVE: Forward has the most career earnings in NBA history. He has amassed a staggering $843 million career earnings. This year, he’ll rake in an astounding $54.7 million. That increases his maximum contract value to three years and a whopping $144.7 million.
His scoring ability is and has always been a central tenet of his career. Durant has averaged at least 25 points a game in each of the last three seasons. He does that while shooting 50% from the field and 40% from three. Today he sits in eighth place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. In the event that he reaches the 990 point threshold this season, he will pass the legendary Wilt Chamberlain and current Mavericks leader Dirk Nowitzki on that elite ranking.
