Kevin Durant recently shared his reflections on his time with the Brooklyn Nets, highlighting both the challenges and successes experienced during the team's era of high expectations. Despite dealing with internal issues, Durant fondly recalled the support from fans and the memorable moments they created together. His comments shed light on the dynamics of the team's journey and the enduring connection with their supporters.
Durant acknowledged the period of "dysfunction," a term he used to describe the internal challenges faced by the Nets' star-studded lineup. Despite this, he emphasized the unwavering enthusiasm of fans who continued to show up and cheer for the team. The support from the stands remained a significant highlight for Durant, underscoring the bond between the players and their audience.
"Even though we went through a lot of dysfunction, I guess you could call it, for lack of a better term," he said.
The Brooklyn Nets, featuring the formidable trio of Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving, were often at the center of various narratives concerning their individual personas and team dynamics. However, Durant highlighted that once they took to the court, they built a culture that resonated with fans. This camaraderie and teamwork became evident through the games they played together.
"There was a lot of narratives going around about each individual player — me, James and Kyrie — about our mentality as men. But once we got on the court and once we actually played together, once you seen the culture that we were building, it was something that the fans could get behind I think," he remarked.
Despite not securing a championship, Durant reflected on the lasting impact their time together had on fans. He recalled how loyal supporters braved cold weather to watch games, cherishing regular-season victories and playoff appearances. These moments left an indelible mark on both players and spectators, creating memories that fans continue to hold dear.
"It didn't culminate into a championship, but people who had season tickets, who get into their car in the cold, come down and watch us play, still remember some moments, some regular-season games, a couple playoff games," Durant noted.
Durant also expressed gratitude for the enduring affection from fans whenever he visits. The connection between him and the supporters remains palpable, reflecting a mutual appreciation that transcends wins and losses.
"Some moments that people can hold onto and you can feel that love when I come through here," he added.
