Kevin Durant Joins Houston Rockets in Historic Seven-Team Trade

In a groundbreaking move in NBA history, Kevin Durant has been traded to the Houston Rockets as part of a complex seven-team trade. This significant deal marks Durant’s transition from the Phoenix Suns to the Rockets, a team that finished as the second overall seed in last season’s Western Conference.

The trade officially closed after the league’s yearlong moratorium on activity passed. It included a crazed, ground-shaking activity over dozens of franchises, most notably the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves – and Phoenix Suns. With the moratorium having ended on Sunday, that still left room for the trade to be consummated in the NBA’s 2025-26 league year.

Within this complex deal, a total of 13 players have changed jerseys. The Houston Rockets are pulling off the biggest heist of all time! On the send Daeqwon Plowden, Clint Capela, Dillon Brooks, David Roddy and Jalen Green to the Phoenix Suns. The trade included a crucial element: the No. 10 pick in the upcoming draft. This first-rounder was used by Phoenix to draft center Khaman Maluach, which shows the franchise intends to move quickly to build up the talent on their roster.

12 second-round picks changed hands as part of this deal. Phoenix played this coyly, deftly angling to obtain second-round picks from Houston. They then worked their magic swapping those same picks with other teams in later trades. This detailed web of moves is perhaps indicative of the extent to which these teams have worked to improve their present-day outlook and future assets.

Durant’s presence in Houston to coincide with his arrival marks an important moment for both the superstar and Houston Rockets organization. Durant won MVP, and now he’s widely regarded as the best player in the league. His remarkable technical ability will greatly improve Houston’s chances of being more competitive as they seek a deeper playoff run in next season.

That ginormous trade that was finalized on last month’s NBA Finals Game 7 day. This move really brings to light some of the strategic calculations teams are always making, even at the peak of basketball’s calendar. Though such trades are rare, this exemplifies Durant’s unparalleled value. It paints a deeper portrait of one of the most complicated relationships at play in today’s NBA–the transactional one.
