Kerolin: From Sao Paulo Streets to WSL Stardom

Kerolin, a rising football star, has taken the Women's Super League (WSL) by storm, showcasing her exceptional talent and determination. Having played barefoot with boys on the streets of Sao Paulo, Brazil, she developed a passion for the sport early in life. Her journey to professional football is marked by resilience and ambition, as she aims to become the best player in the world. Despite only being in the WSL for two weeks, Kerolin has already made a significant impact, leaving fans and pundits in awe of her skills.

Kerolin's love for football began in her childhood, playing alongside boys on the streets of Sao Paulo. Reflecting on those formative experiences, she said, "I really believe playing with the boys when I was young brought something to me." Her early days of kicking the ball barefoot taught her perseverance and a unique style of play that continues to define her game. "I was playing in the street with the boys with nothing on my feet, no shoes. I don't know how to say, but with my toes out, and when you shoot the ball it hurts," she recalled.

At the age of 11, Kerolin faced a significant health challenge when she was hospitalized with osteomyelitis and cellulitis in her leg. The setback did not deter her; instead, it fueled her resolve to excel in football. As a teenage talent, she joined Ponte Preta, a Sao Paulo-based club, where her skills began to gain recognition. Her Ginga roots, characterized by a swaying and fluid style of play, became central to both her identity as a player and person.

Kerolin's career trajectory took an upward turn during her three-year stint with North Carolina Courage in the United States. Her performance was impressive, ending the most recent season with 14 goal involvements in 24 appearances. Her time in the US honed her abilities and prepared her for the challenges of playing in Europe.

Now part of Manchester City, Kerolin has seamlessly adapted to their style of play, which emphasizes intensity and skillful one-on-one encounters. Her coach encourages her to utilize her individual prowess, as she expressed, "It's crazy how quick things happen. The coach is telling me to go one-vs-one all the time." Kerolin's dedication to her craft is evident in every match she plays.

Despite her short time in the WSL, Kerolin has already captured attention. She scored her first club goal and was named Most Valuable Player in the league, demonstrating her exceptional capabilities on the field. Her commitment extends beyond personal achievements; she is dedicated to her team and supporters. "I've only been here for two weeks but I'm happy because I'm doing what I love," she shared. "I'm going to give everything for my team-mates, the fans are going to see a player that works hard to do every part of the game – to defend, to attack."

Kerolin's ambitions reach far beyond her current accomplishments. With an eagerness to play in the Champions League for the first time, she remains focused on becoming a global football icon. "I want to try to become the best player in the world," she confidently stated. Her journey from Brazil to the WSL sets her apart as an exception to the rule, showcasing her determination and talent.
