By all appearances, Justin Tucker–the greatest kicker of all time and former Baltimore Raven legend–is preparing for an audition. He’s on track to make it onto the New Orleans Saints roster! And just like that, this is his first big opportunity to display what he’s capable of. He became suspended for the first ten weeks of the 2025 NFL season. Tucker, 36, was previously accused of sexual misconduct or assault against as many as 16 massage therapists from 2012 to 2016. Ultimately, the Ravens cut him in May after an independent investigation.
Tucker has for months denied the allegations at the heart of this lawsuit. Consequently, he was suspended after breaching the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Tucker has responded to these claims by calling them “unequivocally false.” He is now eligible for reinstatement as of November 11. This tryout with the Saints represents a big step toward the continuation of his professional career.
Tucker started his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins in 2012. He signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted rookie free agent. He spent 13 seasons with the franchise. During that span, he garnered some ridiculous accolades, such as five first-team All-Pro selections and seven Pro Bowl appearances. He struggled last season, with his field goal percentage falling to a career-low 73.3%. In spite of this misfortune, he was hailed as the league’s richest-paid kicker when he signed his contract extension back in 2022.
New Orleans is obviously interested in getting a look at Tucker’s abilities with the backdrop of their own kicking woes this season. Want to join us next year for our tryout? He noted that it means analyzing players’ competencies and recognizing their individual situations.
“Just like a lot of players, there’s the field component of this thing that you get guys in here to evaluate them, but also you just want to get to know the people and get to know maybe a circumstance here and there and certainly he had a suspension in the league, he’s served that suspension,” – Moore
Moore emphasized that Tucker’s past is a consideration, the primary focus will be on his performance during the workout.
“No. No. I think this is all part of going through this process. We’ll bring in a couple of guys and just go through a workout, and we’ll see where it all takes place,” – Moore
The Saints did receive their fair share of kicking slumps this season, leading them to search for more talent. Moore mentioned that Tucker has been a league veteran for years and emphasized his sustained success over the years with Baltimore.
“He’s been a really good kicker in this league for a really long time, and he’s had a ton of success and he’s been a leader for Baltimore for a long time,” – Moore
The Saints aren’t done either, they’re still going out and blatantly auditioning players. This tryout would pave the way for Tucker’s return to professional football, allowing him to build off his ‘2018–2020’ resume as one of the league’s premier kickers.
