Justin Fields Returns to Practice Following Minor Toe Injury

Justin Fields, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears, is back on the field after sustaining a minor toe injury during practice last Thursday. Fields then limped off the field in visible pain. He was quickly wheeled to the locker room after an opponent accidentally stomped on his right foot. After an MRI and X-ray, medical personnel determined that he had dislocated his toe. Luckily, the injury was deemed not too serious as it was the second toe and not the big toe that was hurt.

Back in the locker room, Fields said he was “very appreciative” that it wasn’t serious. I thought I was going to die because I was so confused. It didn’t look right, but luckily, they said it was just a dislocated one.” He continued. For the next two weeks, he will wear a plastic shield on his cleats to protect the area. This will be key to ensuring no one is injured again.

Initially, Fields didn’t think much of it after getting stepped on. At first, he said it felt like a normal sensation, but when he tried to move around, he found that it was a weird feeling, almost like something was lodged in his toe. Though it’s a blow, he is still hopeful about recovering from the accident. He says the toe is “gradually getting back to 100%.”

After missing one full practice and being limited in another, Fields was back to full team drills on Monday. But in the three-plus practices since his return, he has yet to really put together a dominant practice. In a practice, run-heavy as it was with pads on, Fields only connected on 4-of-8 passes. One of those incompletions was two drops by his wideouts.

Still, that two-minute drill was among the highlights as Fields added some pep to the proceedings by converting a critical fourth-and-2 with a 9-yard scramble. He finished the drill with an exhilarating 15-yard touchdown dart to rookie tight end Mason Taylor. This was a special moment that demonstrated his clutch gene.

I for sure didn’t want to miss extended time,” Fields said. He really drove home the point that he’s going to be there for his team as they face the stormy weather ahead.

As Fields adjusts to the new protective helmet, he’s optimistic about his recovery from the injury. He never loses sight of the task at hand – honing his craft and further establishing himself as the leader on the field.
