Jota Sets Ambitious Goals Following Return to Celtic

Celtic winger Jota is keen to take his game to another level after settling back into life in Glasgow with ease. After spending almost two seasons at Celtic Park under deputy former coach Ange Postecoglou, Jota has rejoined the club. After a widely reported ordeal in Saudi Arabia and France, he rejoined in January. At only 25, he is fiercely focused on continuing to top his own work. He intends to play a big role in the club’s future title-winning potential.

Jota’s ability to adapt to his surroundings has reaped heavy rewards since his return from Rennes. At Celtic, he said, the structure was “very clearly defined.” This solid bedrock has contributed to making it seem as though he has never been away from the club. He’s at home in nature. On the pitch, he’s already scored four goals in 12 appearances since re-signing.

Despite not being at peak match fitness upon his return, Jota has shown glimpses of his potential and attacking threat. I think it’s been a good two-game stretch. So, no, I’m not in the best shape yet but I definitely know that’s coming for sure. But happy at the moment with how things are going,” he noted, highlighting his positive outlook as he works on regaining full fitness.

Jota’s passion for football drives him forward. “Playing a lot of games is my favourite thing,” he wrote on the Players’ Tribune, declaring his intention to add many trophies to Celtic’s cabinet. He recognizes the importance of consistent performance and aims to help the team achieve its goals, including winning titles and excelling in the Champions League.

As he travels the world pursuing his career, Jota has a singular focus. So I’m not going to say that oh I’m shooting for this and then I can really shoot for something lower. So I just take it day by day and just do my work and just grind and be the best version of myself,” he said. This big picture philosophy is a main reason for his commitment to player and team development.

Looking back on his dreams, Jota admits there’s never been a perfect year. “There’s always things to get better at and obviously winning titles and making very good performances on the Champions League, that’s what you aim for in the end,” he remarked. He believes that achieving one goal leads to new challenges, saying, “When you reach a mountain, the top of the mountain, there’s always another one to reach again.”

Jota’s journey from a poor neighborhood to the world stage is a story of resilience and aspiration. He is keenly aware of where he wants to go in his career, stating, “I’m no different to that. I know where I want to go, I know what I want to achieve and that’s it.”
