The 27-year-old Myers, a former Cleveland Browns third-round pick, has solidified his position on New York Jets Local Show. He recently agreed to a two-year, $11 million contract extension. Myers was first signed by the Jets as an unrestricted free agent back in March, signing a one-year deal for $2 million. He went on to spend four seasons in the same role with the Green Bay Packers. During his final season there, he showed his workhorse potential by starting all 13 games. It’s his play in Green Bay that has truly put him on the map. In terms of ESPN’s pass-block win rate, he ranks ninth among all centers, but just 27th in run-block win rate.
Though originally signed to be a backup, Myers ended up developing into one of the Jets’ most important players. During the entire preseason, he battled for the starting job with veteran center Joe Tippman. In the end, Myers won the job at center, forcing Tippmann to move to right guard. His remarkable ability to adjust on the fly, finding ways to thrive under great duress, was an instrumental factor in his mid-season contract extension.
The Jets’ decision to extend Myers reflects their confidence in his abilities and his contributions to the team’s offensive line. His play made the entire team’s pass protection better.
