Earlier this week, Green Bay Packers’ rookie quarterback Jordan Love had surgery on his injured left thumb. This procedure will make sure he is prepared for the 2019 NFL season. On Tuesday, the procedure took place in Los Angeles. This move became vital after “a freak ligament injury” happened during Saturday’s preseason opener against the New York Jets. Given that Love’s injury was located at the ulnar collateral ligament, Love’s stability of the hand would be pivotal.
Although it was a frustrating setback, Love showed no signs of fear or trepidation by practicing on Monday with his right thumb taped up. He made his second return back to the field on Thursday, this time with his left hand significantly wrapped. This decision is a testament to his dedication to move past all the injuries that haunted his inaugural professional campaign in 2022.
Last year, Love was challenged on all sides. He sprained his MCL in the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil, missing two games. Not only that, he was playing through a groin injury in the latter half of the season. Looking back on those experiences, Love said he wants to head into this season with no bumps and bruises.
Given the limited time period we’re on, I thought with going into urban riding let’s end this training camp / pre-season on a high note. I really, really wanted to go into the season 100 percent healthy. Love stated.
The choice to have the surgery was a hard one. Love said had this happened in the regular season, he probably would have decided not to get surgery. “If this was in the middle of the season, probably would’ve been something we didn’t get the surgery on,” he added.
Love is feeling positive about his recovery schedule. He will begin the process of re-integrating into practice next week. Naturally, this will depend on how he feels while airing it out and cutting. “We’ll start integrating back in next week and kind of just playing it by ear, seeing how it feels,” he remarked.
Love’s commitment to his health and performance bodes well for his readiness for Week 1 of the upcoming NFL season. Packers fans and the team itself are still living with hope. They trust he can steer the ship like this as they prepare to head into the teeth of a tough second half schedule.
