Many have read about Jordan Addison, the Minnesota Vikings wide receiver who recently pled guilty to a misdemeanor. As punishment, he was given the reduced charge of “wet reckless” in his DUI case. The plea deal comes nearly a year after he was pulled over for speeding 140 mph on a Minnesota freeway. This unfortunate episode occurred in July 2023. Addison’s attorney, Jacqueline Sparagna, was the first to confirm plea details. Besides the $686 fine, it involves six months of complying with probation terms.
Addison’s colorful legal history culminated last summer with his arrest for going 140 miles an hour, toting weapons and drugs. After the incident, he decided to settle criminal charges by pleading guilty to a reduced misdemeanor speeding ticket. They dropped the more serious reckless driving charge. Allowing the “wet reckless” plea allows him to continue his political career. Now he can do so without the stigma of a DUI conviction hanging over him.
In treating this matter, Addison said he was ready to take responsibility.
“Whatever’s out there for me, whatever comes with it, I’ll own up to everything. I feel like anything that comes my way is meant to happen or is deserved.” – Jordan Addison
Tim Younger, Addison’s agent, noted that the player took “careful consideration of the charges against him and all defenses.” He made it clear that Addison fully understood the repercussions of his vote. Beyond that, he communicated with the Vikings organization throughout their entire legal process.
“He has kept the organization apprised throughout these legal proceedings,” Younger stated, adding that Addison would remain committed to being a valuable member of the team.
Though still just a rookie, Addison has quickly proven to be a valuable commodity for the Vikings. Yet he’s made 29 starts. In only two seasons with the team, he’s already recorded 133 catches, 1,786 yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground. This plea agreement finally allows him to get back to pursuing his football goals and behind him these legal troubles.
As you may imagine, the NFL is paying very close attention to everything that happens here. They have indicated that it is still under consideration.
“While Mr. Addison’s case would have made for a great trial, I admire him for taking responsibility by accepting the city attorney’s ‘wet reckless’ offer. Now he can put this incident behind him and solely focus on his promising career.” – Jacqueline Sparagna
As for the NFL, they have stated that they are closely monitoring all developments in this matter, which remains under review.
