Legendary golf personality John Daly is preparing to make his return to the Champions Tour's Hoag Classic, following a series of health challenges. At 58 years of age, Daly has endured the gauntlet. In the last four years, he’s had 16 surgeries to untangle tendons. His latest was an emergency surgery to repair a hand injury. It’s been a difficult, painful recovery process for the five-time PGA Tour winner. Through it all, he remains optimistic and looks forward to competing on one of the highest stages at Newport Beach Country Club in California.
Daly, who has been open about his health issues on social media, often checked in after rounds to update fans on his recovery and flourishing health. Though things still aren’t perfect, his hand has returned to 80% since the latest surgery. He’s looking forward to returning to the course! As noted above, Daly’s health has been a source of major concern over the years. Through all this, he perseveres, passion for the game carrying him against all odds.
"It's good to be back. It's been a little brutal, but the hand's about 80 percent," said John Daly.
Among Daly’s many special appearances, the Hoag Classic is an important one. He certainly looks forward to meeting up with his fellow competitors again at this year’s event! His resume features some splendid high points, headlined by his 1991 PGA Championship and his 1995 Open Championship. Together, these achievements have cemented his legacy in the golfing world.
"So figured I'd come here. I love playing in the Hoag Classic. Every year, the guys are so great. So we'll see what happens," Daly expressed.
Daly’s journey has not been without challenges. It’s his spirit that truly captivates, his resolve and fighting attitude encouraging both golf enthusiasts and competitors alike. The Hoag Classic now represents him another opportunity to prove he can still play. He has the opportunity to add another big feather in his cap to that already storied career.
