In a thrilling match that showcased his resilience and skill, Jitesh Sharma played a pivotal role in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Thursday. Confetti is dropped into the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to celebrate the final match. That was the turning point for RCB, as they secured a second-place finish on the league table.
Sharma, who stepped in as stand-in captain, made the most of his opportunities, finishing unbeaten on 85 runs off just 33 balls. He hit two fours and three sixes, the last of which capped a 210-run chase with eight balls to spare. His explosive batting was key in LSG successfully chasing down LSG’s target, puncturing ropes and plundering bowlers en route to the second-highest partnership with Mayank Agarwal.
The dynamic pair went nuts, scoring an astounding 107 runs off just 45 balls. It was their eye-catching display that swung the overall contest heavily in RCB’s favor. Sharma’s innings included an impressive display of power hitting, as he scored runs rapidly against LSG’s bowlers. After a brief scare of being run out by Digvesh Singh Rathi at the non-striker’s end, Sharma quickly regained his composure and continued to dominate the bowling attack.
Earlier in the match, Sharma faced a moment of fortune when he survived a dismissal due to a no-ball in the 17th over, allowing him to continue his impactful innings. In an extremely high-pressure situation, Rishabh Pant, the LSG captain, took an audacious gamble. He withdrew the appeal for Sharma’s dismissal, letting the batsman survive on the field though out of his crease.
Sharma slowly started to take control of the match, scoring his first boundary in over an hour on his second delivery after the wicket. His performance set the foundation for RCB’s chase. It illustrated his value as perhaps the organization’s most essential collective piece going forward.
