The New York Jets announced that wide receiver Garrett Wilson has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injury. He did incur a knee sprain and was placed on IR on November 13. Wilson recently signed a four-year, $130 million extension right before training camp. He is a very legit choice to be named one of the three franchise player representatives.
At only 25 years old, Wilson has proven to be an elite prospect. Unfortunately, his season was cut short as he only ended up appearing in just seven games. He hasn’t played since November 9. Surely that day, the Jets were all basking in the afterglow of a miraculous 27-20 comeback victory over the Cleveland Browns. During that short span, Wilson logged 36 catches for 395 yards and four touchdowns.
The Jets demonstrated their commitment to Wilson by locking him into a long-term extension along with fellow player Sauce Gardner. This strategic move is indicative of how much the franchise believes in Wilson and how important he is to the team’s future.
Coach Aaron Glenn addressed the decision to keep Wilson out for the remainder of the season, emphasizing the team’s cautious approach regarding the player’s health.
“We just want to be smart with him because he’s a key cog in what we’re doing here. To be able to get him back in the offseason program, fully healthy, ready to go, we feel like that was the best decision for all of us.” – Aaron Glenn
Though he has only played five games with QB Justin Fields this season, Wilson’s impact is unavoidable. The Jets organization is continuing to hope that he makes a full recovery and can rejoin the team in the future.
“He’s doing really, really well as far as his rehab.” – Aaron Glenn
Despite only playing five games alongside quarterback Justin Fields this season, Wilson’s impact has been significant. The Jets organization remains optimistic about his recovery and future contributions to the team.
