Jets Cast a Wide Net in Search for New Leadership

The New York Jets have embarked on an extensive search to fill their general manager position, having interviewed 13 known candidates. This comprehensive process includes interviews with notable figures such as Steve Spagnuolo, Mike Locksley, Mike Vrabel, Ron Rivera, Rex Ryan, Matt Nagy, and Aaron Glenn. As the team looks to rebuild both on and off the field, the Jets are also in pursuit of a new head coach. The 33rdTeam, a football media, analytics, and consulting group founded by Mike Tannenbaum, is assisting in identifying and vetting potential candidates for these pivotal roles.

Among the candidates is Ryan Grigson, the 52-year-old senior vice president of player personnel for the Minnesota Vikings. Grigson's impressive tenure with the Vikings saw him help construct a roster that achieved a 13-4 record during the regular season and secured a playoff berth. His previous experience as Indianapolis' general manager includes selecting quarterback Andrew Luck as the first overall pick in the 2012 draft.

The Jets have also turned their attention to Chris Spielman, a former NFL linebacker who serves as a special assistant to the president, CEO, and chairperson for Detroit. Spielman played a significant role in helping general manager Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell assemble a Lions squad that achieved a franchise-record 15 wins this season. Notably, Spielman is the younger brother of Rick Spielman, the former Dolphins and Vikings GM.

In addition to Grigson and Spielman, the Jets' candidate pool includes Denver assistant GM Darren Mougey, Cincinnati executive Trey Brown, and Washington assistant GM Lance Newmark. Newmark is navigating his first season as Washington's assistant GM under Adam Peters.

The Jets are conducting their search for new leadership following their dismissal of previous management in November. To bolster their coaching staff, they completed an interview with Darren Rizzi, who stepped in as the Saints' interim coach during the second half of the year.

With the assistance of Mike Tannenbaum and The 33rdTeam, the Jets are diligently working to identify the right fit for their organization. Tannenbaum's expertise is proving invaluable in evaluating both general manager and coaching candidates.
