Paul Hutchison has resigned as director of cricket for Jersey. He was named men’s head coach, a role he officially assumed in February 2024. The 48-year-old former international passport player appeared for Yorkshire, Sussex and Middlesex, winning three County Championships. Yet he has been at the helm of Jersey cricket for less than two years.
During his tenure, Hutchison scored some awesome accomplishments. He was captain when Jersey defeated Scotland earlier this summer to qualify for their very first T20 World Cup. He has made the difficult decision to return to the UK for family reasons. That raised the temperature on his resignation, which was confirmed in an official announcement from the Jersey Cricket Board.
It is a departure that marks a major crossroads for Jersey cricket. They are now preparing for the future even more so, as the 2026 T20 World Cup looms ever closer. Cricket authorities in Jersey are preparing to review the head coach role over the winter break. They are committed to putting the right systems in place to ensure long-term success.
John Harris, chair of the Jersey Cricket Board, said the board was “thankful for Hutchison’s contributions” throughout his time with the team.
“On behalf of the board and all at Jersey Cricket I would like to thank Paul for his contribution to Jersey Cricket over the past 18 months,” – John Harris
Harris acknowledged Hutchison’s innovative approach and support for both men’s and women’s teams, which resulted in commendable progress.
“He has brought some new ideas and supported the development of our cricket across our men and women’s teams with commendable results and progress.” – John Harris
The cricket board seconded their sentiment that they understand Hutchison’s personal reasons for her departure.
“We understand and respect the reasons for his departure, and wish him well for the future.” – John Harris
As Jersey cricket looks to build on their exciting future, finding Hutchison’s successor will be an important first step to keeping up momentum within the program. We’ll make sure that this extraordinary team is equipped to tackle what lies ahead. We are aiming to make it to 2026 T20 World Cup!
